The Lovely Bones
by Alice Sebold

The book, The Lovely Bones, starts out the same as the movie, but it goes into more detail than the movie and it doesn’t go in the same order as the movie.

The book describes what happened to the Salmon girl and how she felt the whole time. She watches her family all the time. Through the good and bad and describes their every mood. She tells how her little sister grows up and graduates from college. And she says she likes to spend time with the people she knew. Like studying and playing tag with them.

In the movie, the scene starts as Susie being alive and then being killed. It goes in a sort of chronological order with the occasional flashback. But in the book she’s dead and tells her story of being alive, how she died and what becomes of those she loved who had continued living. But instead of going in order, she tells the end then goes back a few days before her death. Then back to now after her death what her family goes through back to a few months before her death. It just scatters all over the time table as she simply tells what happened and how she sees earth from heaven.

The Lovely Bones is a tell-tailing story of a girl’s death and after life. It’s tragic both the movie and the book. But they both tell the story in a different way. The book defiantly goes into more depth and detail than that of the movie.
